Bright and welcoming, this design combines the owners' style with do-it-yourself sensibility.   Through research the owners chose prefabricated Ikea cabinets but still wanted a custom and functional layout that works for their everyday use.  With minimal changes to the walls and structure, the design maximizes the existing footprint and increases circulation space.  And the new generous island with counter dining proves to be a gathering spot in the heart of this multi-generational farmhouse.
